Focusing on issues of isolation, discrimination, and mistreatment, we will examine how systemic biases, lack of cultural competency, and structural barriers impact the quality of care provided to trans patients. Attendees will gain insight into the lived experiences of trans individuals, understand the intersectionality of mental health and gender identity, and explore actionable strategies for creating more inclusive and supportive environments in mental health facilities. This November 20th, we invite you to gather in a heartfelt tribute to honor the lives lost to anti-trans violence. Our candlelit vigil will serve as a safe space for reflection, remembrance, and resilience. Together, we will read aloud the names of those we’ve lost so they may rest in power while we stand in solidarity and recognition, vowing to work towards a future where anti-trans violence ends.
In a spirit of community, we encourage attendees to share a few words of love, remembrance, or support for the Trans lives that inspire us. As a poignant symbol of our collective commitment to honor their memory, we will release a biodegradable wreath into the water, a symbol of both our grief and our enduring hope for a future where all can live authentically and free.
This event is a safe space for both gender diverse individuals and also allies. Let us come together in a spirit of compassion and unity as we remember not just the pain of loss, but the power of love and community. Together, we will shine a light of hope in the darkness.

Join TEC as we will be tabling at Newark Pride's 19th Annual Pride Festival.
"The Newark Pride festival was founded shortly after the tragic death of Sakia Gunn, a teenager targeted and murdered because of her sexual orientation in downtown Newark. In response to the needs of the LGBTQ community, safe spaces and programming were advocated for, resulting in the establishment of Newark Pride Week in 2005. The festival has since expanded over the last 18 years, adapting to the evolving landscape of Newark and attracting a significant number of attendees to the Downtown Business District. Newark now offers a plethora of cultural institutions like NJPAC, Prudential Arena, and The Newark Museum, as well as new dining establishments, hotels, and upscale apartments that contribute to the downtown area's transformation."
